Mx210  Kate-3
Unlimited Altitude
GPS Tracking System
The Mx210 transmitter features a GPS with unlimited altitude capability.  It can be used to track extremely high altitude flights and capture the maximum altitude with GPS precision.
  • GPS altitude lockout:  NONE
  • GPS velocity lockout: 1700 feet/sec
  • GPS fixes per second:  5
  • Accelerometer: 50G at 100 readings per second
  • Downlink radio range: 550,000 feet  (100 miles)
  • License free 900 MHz one watt transmitter
  • No HAM licence required
  • Compatible with existing Multitronix Mx220 Receivers
  • Optional add-on pyro board for deployment and staging
  • Wireless power-up capability using Mx105 Turn-on coil
  • Records all flight data into on-board flash memory
  • USB connection for data download
  • Li-ion battery with built-in charger
  • Flexible mounting options
  • Fits inside a 54mm coupler tube (2.0" ID tube)
The version shown here is similar to the original Kate 1.0 Mx110 transmitter configuration.   Except here the downlink antenna is pointed up so that it uses nosecone tip space more efficiently. This version fits inside a 54mm coupler tube or even a 54mm nosecone.

Other configurations are also possible.  The GPS antenna and the downlink antenna can be remotely mounted if necessary and connected via cables.  The battery can also be remotely mounted.  An optional pyro board can be plugged onto the back side of the transmitter in order to add deployment and staging capability.    Link to Pyro Board information.

The 54mm round bulkhead on the bottom can be easily removed if desired.  This allows the unit to be mounted to a different size bulkhead or another structure such as a sled.

Nearly every other GPS tracker being sold for use in hobby/amateur rockets is limited to a maximum operational altitude of 50km (164K feet).  There is one that does operate at higher altitudes but it has a GPS module that resets itself when it transitions down from high speed.  Therefore, it has to re-acquire and re-lock onto all the GPS satellites as it approaches a high altitude apogee.  This can take some time and runs a risk of not having a good GPS fix at apogee.   This does not happen with Kate-3.  The Kate-3 GPS module never resets during flight.

Kate-3 Transmitter Brochure
This product brochure is a concise summary of the Mx210 capabilities.

Picture
The Mx210 transmitter comes ready to fly. No sled to build, no wiring required. It is a self-contained unit that fits inside a 54 mm coupler tube.  This makes it easy to move from one rocket to another.  However, it is easy to reconfigure if needed.
The data downlink antenna and the GPS antenna can be remotely mounted and connected with cables if necessary.
Sled mounting the electronics section is also an option.
An Mx230 Pyro Board can be plugged onto the backside to add deployment and staging capability.
The battery can also be custom mounted to your own sled if desired.
The 54mm bulkhead on the bottom can be removed. This allows the unit to be mounted to a custom bulkhead or sled.
